Central European University is pleased to announce that the university’s Hungarian legal entity (Kozep-europai Egyetem) was reaccredited by the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB) following a review, which takes place every five years. Separately, we are pleased to announce that five of CEU’s academic programs were ranked among the top 100 in the world, and two others in the top 200, by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) in its global subject rankings, released today.
“Our university is proud to have secured re-accreditation here in Hungary, where we belong, and we’re delighted that we’re ranked among the world’s top universities in so many disciplines,” said CEU President and Rector Michael Ignatieff.
MAB voted unanimously to grant institutional reaccreditation at its Feb. 23 meeting, following an extensive review. In its post-visit report, MAB’s Visiting Committee emphasized the university’s strong research record, talent management, commitment to the Hungarian community, its role as a bridge between the Hungarian and the American higher education systems, its collegial culture, the strong institutional identity of staff members, academics, students and alumni, sensitivity to students’ needs, its state-of-the-art infrastructure, its well-structured administration supporting educational as well as research activities, its impressive national and international reputation, its commitment to excellence in research and teaching, and its generous student support services and scholarships.
CEU was ranked among the top 100 in the world in the fields of Politics, Social Policy, Sociology, History, and Philosophy. The rankings represent an improvement in History, from the 101-150 spot last year. Furthermore, it received rankings in the top 200 in Economics and Law, the same level as in 2017.
In the broader subject areas, CEU ranks #172 in the world in Arts & Humanities, and #202 in Social Sciences & Management, according to QS. QS World University Rankings by Subject considers 1,130 institutions in 151 countries in 48 subjects annually.
CEU is not ranked in QS’ main rankings and those of other rankings organizations because it has no undergraduate programs, which are often a requirement for inclusion. Quacquarelli Symonds’ QS World University Rankings by Subject do not have such a requirement.
