I'm a comparative-historical sociologist and a social theorist with interest in art, knowledge, and culture production. My research focuses on cultural politics, especially on heritage and memory. I received a PhD from New York University, and hold an MA in Sociology (NYU) as well as an MA in the Epistemology of the Social Sciences (Sorbonne-Paris-IV). I was a Fung Fellow at the Institute for International and Regional Studies at Princeton University; a Florence Gould Fellow (Council for European Studies); a visiting scholar at McGill University's Department of Media and Art History; and a fellow at NYU's Institute for Public Knowledge. My recent publications deal with Hungary's Holocaust memory, the social history of "heritage," UNESCO's World Heritage program, and the decentralization of policies of patrimoine in France. I also worked and published on sexuality and everyday culture in Germany and France, the Arts and Crafts movement, and TV and nationalism in the French heritage movement. Ongoing projects include a book manuscript on the formation of the heritage field in France after World War II; a series of publications about the memory of the Holocaust in Europe/Hungary; and another one on the theoretical and historical cross-overs between critical sociology and sociological pragmatism.
In the department of Sociology and Social Anthropology and in the Cultural Heritage MA Program at CEU, I teach the following courses: Politics of Memory and Heritage; Culture and the State; Art and Society; and Contemporary Social Theory.
